The Primary Article of Resistance

The first Axial Harmonic division by two will always represent the article of resistance being introduced to the primary harmonic aspect. Resistance applied to harmony brings out the person's attitude to both. A person can take three different approaches to resistance, and each will determine the attitude with which he/she approaches life in general.

The first and most obvious approach is that of greater resistance. Unfortunately this is often promoted as the natural order of things, and many people never see past this kind of thinking. Whenever a person with this approach comes across a resistance to their energy, they will respond with stronger resistance, escalating a conflict and producing a win / lose scenario. Either way, the illusion of harmony is restored by compliance. This attitude will tarnish all aspects of life, thus the person never explores anything more than primary harmonic energy in their own life. They do not come to terms with resistance because they are too busy resisting it. It may sound a little silly, but it is a fair description of the dynamics of escalated resistance.

The second, and more sinister approach is that of compliance. There are some people who get so tired of resistance that they then fall into a pattern of automatic subjection. This, they conclude, stops the resistance and therefore produces 'harmony' (of an illusory kind). Again there is a considerable quantity of people for whom compliance has become the natural order of things. These people also do not explore beyond the primary harmonic levels because to do so is to raise the possibility of resistance and therefore destroy their concept of harmony. This is more sinister because it removes the potential for self development whilst maintaining a harmonious facade. If you like, this becomes a form of compounded compliance in the same fashion by which the first attitude is one of escalated resistance.

When neither party is compliant, then ongoing resistance becomes a source of tension which depletes both parties, and has a destructive effect on any third parties involved. If two parties remain in a state of escalated resistance, then a third party is usually drawn into the conflict, and is usually depleted in order to establish harmony between the first two. This is where families often break down, and the children become victims of escalated resistance.

The power generated by escalated resistance is the power of consumption.

The 'winning' party receives a perceived energy boost at the expense of the compliant party. The compliant party feels that they have done the honourable thing in relinquishing their energy to the other, and therefore experiences a different kind of boost.

In the larger picture of life, the entire exchange is energy depleting because neither party learns the finer art of generating their own energy. They must continually stand over others, or be compliant towards others, in order to maintain their perceived energy levels.

The common ground between these two groups is that they see resistance to their own energy as a negative energy. They also tend to draw their view of harmony form the same article of resistance (that is to say; harmony is described as a lack of resistance in both cases). This is a clear contradiction to the natural order of life. Harmony, in all areas of existence is produced when each of the parties involved is doing what they do best. This is particularly true in the animal, plant and mineral kingdoms, it is also true when it exists in the human realm.

In harmonic theory, harmony is a vibrant resonant energy in its own right. At its highest vibration, it is best described as communion, which is the third energy which develops when union and resistance are resolved between two or more parties.

The 'middle ground' approach to resistance requires a new attitude towards it. Resistance is a fact of life in the same way as breathing is. There is no experience of life without some experience of resistance. By viewing resistance as an enemy, a large portion of life's experience is automatically cast in an undesirable light.

A woman of considerable wisdom pointed out to me one day that, it is the things that a person finds most irritating in others that are the ones about which they need to learn the most. She went on to elaborate that if I were to find myself harping on about a particular fault I found in somebody, that I should look long and hard at myself to find out which area of my life was experiencing the same kind of imbalance.

To my mind, this is the key to accepting resistance in a positive light and learning from it in order to develop the self to its greatest potential. It is at this energy level that union can be resolved, and this is one of the two prerequisites for resonant harmony.

The second prerequisite for resonant harmony is the resolution of resistance as a separate entity. This is more likely to manifest as criticism from others, either stated or implicit. To the point that each person views life from a different perspective, and that criticism from a given perspective may well indicate an area of weakness or imbalance, then the criticism is valid even though it may be unpleasant. To allow somebody else to dictate your lifestyle by applying criticism is to fall into the trap of compliance. To dictate to others how they should view life by applying criticism is to fall into the trap of escalated resistance, forcing compliance.

To ignore criticism from others is to deny ourselves an opportunity for growth. To always subject ourselves to criticism from others is to fall for the trap of compliance. I will state clearly here that our 'spur of the moment' response to criticism remains a function of our personality type. When I talk about applying criticism from others here I am talking about the reflective process which takes place some time after the incident.

To apply criticism from others properly requires an article of discernment. I must urge extreme caution here. Criticism is a fundamental ploy of control and is used by manipulative people to promote compliance. By missing the 'control trip' signals, or those of escalated resistance, we subject ourselves to needless soul-searching. When a person is trying to gain control or force compliance by applying criticism then their criticism should always be totally rejected.

The one thing we might consider valid from that type of criticism is that the manipulative person is usually good at spotting weakness, we might like to strengthen our energy in that area.

There are times when people are critical with just cause. We should always take notice of criticism which arises without the motives of manipulative control. There are times when criticism of this second variety is also invalid, but it should never be ignored without inspection.

So we see, there can be validity, even in unpleasant criticism, however criticism which produces or expects compliance becomes part of a greater power trip, and this should be rejected.

The energy of resistance is most typical of the Square aspect, and subsequent axial divisions by two describe the finer points of resistance as its energy is refined and applied.
